Engenium Group provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for a 46,705 SF addition and renovation to the Two Rivers Public Charter School’s Young Campus in Washington, DC. The new 28,687 SF addition, connected to the existing building by a skybridge, includes modern classroom spaces, a gymnasium, a glass-paneled atrium, and dedicated common areas.
The MEP scope included the following highlights:
- Extension of electrical service from the existing building to the new addition. The existing switchboard was reused, expanded via two new breakers, and connected through an existing underground tunnel.
- Installation of new lighting systems with daylighting controls. In collaboration with the architect, Engenium Group selected interior and exterior fixtures to reduce light pollution and glare.
- Design and installation of a VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) mechanical system, with an Energy Recovery Unit mounted on the roof.
- Interior renovations to the existing building to integrate the new addition, including necessary updates to existing MEP infrastructure.
