Electrical Project Designer / Engineer – Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD (Hybrid)

General Position Description

The Electrical Project Designer / Engineer will lead and advance internal project deliverables individual contribution and team collaboration, gaining progressively higher levels of technical proficiency and greater degrees of management and leadership. The Electrical Project Designer / Engineer utilizes previous experience and understanding of technical methods to accomplish deliverables quickly and efficiently, working independently with minimal guidance from team leader and senior team members.

This position will report to the office two days per week minimum. Additional in-office days may be required to facilitate internal and external meetings, site visits, events, or other business needs. Travel between offices may also be required in the performance of job duties.

Key Accountabilities 

Technical Engineering – 35% 
  • Perform advanced engineering calculations per discipline
  • Analyze engineering problems as they arise, and formulate solutions
  • Use references, design guides, and precedent examples from prior jobs to creatively solve problems
  • Develop progressively higher levels of technical proficiency in electrical systems
  • Participate in CA phase of project including submittal reviews and RFI responses
  • Research and understand applicable codes, industry best practices, and permit requirements
Production – 30%
  • Set up drawing backgrounds
  • Prepare and coordinate electrical floor plans
  • Prepare details, riser diagrams, and equipment schedules
  • Prepare sequence of operations and control diagrams
  • Edit drawing specifications and begin to edit book specifications
  • Coordinate drawings with other disciplines
  • Prepare technical memoranda and reports
  • Prepare outlines and presentation materials for client presentation
Project Management – 20%

Work under the limited guidance and expertise of the Team Leader to:

  • Manage non-complex projects or those of limited scope
  • Maintain a current work plan task lists for each project
  • Develop, track, and maintain project schedules
  • Coordinate with client regarding deliverables and deadlines
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to requests
  • Prepare for and attend client meetings
Quality and Organizational Management – 10% 
  • Maintain an individual work plan detailing tasks for each project
  • QA/QC own work and work of others to ensure accuracy of documentation and clarity of visual information
  • Ensure deliverables meet company standards and client expectations
  • Maintain organized project files, meeting minutes, and field notes
Professional and Organizational Development – 5% 
  • Participate in organizational training and development programs
  • Lead the technical onboarding and training of immediate team members
  • Support the ongoing development of junior staff through mentorship and knowledge sharing
  • Give and receive feedback to support learning, performance, and growth
  • Attend team and client events
  • Participate in the interview process to evaluate prospective candidates or interns
  • Submit timesheets, expense reports, and other administrative documentation accurately and on time

This position may perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of AEC industry experience preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit
  • Advanced understanding of the principles, practices, and trends of electrical engineering
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods at a desk using a computer
  • Must be able to view a computer screen for prolonged periods
  • Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • During site visits, may be required to:
    • Walk on uneven terrain or unfinished surfaces
    • Climb stairs and ladders
    • Enter confined spaces or areas with limited accessibility
    • Carry equipment or tools such as measuring devices or ladders
Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods while managing multiple tasks
  • Must be able to write clearly and effectively in English
Work Environment:
  • Primarily works in a standard office environment with typical office equipment and conditions
  • Occasional visits to client offices and active construction sites, which may include exposure to:
    • Noise, dust, and other typical construction site conditions
    • Outdoor weather conditions and temperature variations
    • Situational hazards requiring use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety vests, or boots

Compensation

The salary range listed is our best estimate based on industry data for the skills, experience, and responsibilities tied to this role. Final compensation may be more or less depending on specific applicant qualifications and experience, geography, and internal team equity. We aim to be fair, competitive, and transparent—within the boundaries of applicable laws.

This position has a salary range of:

  • Baltimore, MD: $92,488 – $125,131
  • Washington, DC: $107,041 – $144,820
