Benjamin Banneker High School

We provided the plumbing engineering and fire protection design services to support the new construction of the DGS Benjamin Banneker High School located on the corner of Rhode Island Avenue and 9th St. NW in Washington, DC. The project will be designed to achieve LEED for Schools – Gold Certification with a preference of LEED Platinum certification. The Design-Build team is also to explore Net Zero energy strategies through the ILFI Zero Energy Building Program.

Francis Stevens Education Campus

This project for the Francis Stevens Education Campus involves a renovation to the existing auditorium, cafeteria, and gym, including all new MEP systems.

    • New energy efficient HVAC system, including a new 40-ton air-cooled DX rooftop unit with energy recovery wheel, and hot gas reheat for humidity control
    • Air distribution design complies with acoustic requirements of an auditorium
  • Electrical
    • New lighting design, lighting controls, stage lighting, power and convenience outlets, as well as panel boards for the electrical distribution systems to support the mechanical equipment
    • New high efficiency LED fixtures and new lighting controls allowing the use of energy efficient features such as vacancy sensors, daylight dimming, and programmable dimming systems.
    • The design of these new controls can be integrated into a future centrally controlled lighting system allowing remote monitoring of lighting status and energy usage

Engenium Group completed many office fit-up projects within this 260,000 SF, eight-story, LEED Gold office building located at Harbor Point in Baltimore, MD. The building includes underfloor air distribution, energy recovery ventilation system, and redundant power. The office fit-ups ranged in size from 2,000 to 20,000 SF.

    • Sixteen (16) custom 24,00 cfm self contained air handling units with hot gas bypass heating and dehumidification
    • Underfloor air distribution with 63F supply air provided through floor diffusers

Stanton Elementary School

Project scope included the complete upgrade of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of the 60,000 SF existing main school building, as well as the design of a 30,000 SF new addition. The project design supports a LEED Gold rating, based on LEED 2009 for School New Construction and Major Renovations. A fast-track design and construction schedule enabled the 60,000 SF first phase to be completed over the summer in time for the start of school in the late August.

John Lewis Elementary School (formerly West Elementary)

John Lewis Elementary School

Engenium Group provided plumbing engineering design and fire protection services for the renovation and modernization of John Lewis Elementary School (formerly West Elementary) in Washington, DC. Located in Ward 4, the modernization of the 90,000 SF school serves more than 350 students in Pre-kindergarten through Grade 5.

John Lewis Elementary is among the first Net Zero Energy-Ready and WELL Certified Schools in the District. The design and layout of the school combines a focus on indoor environmental quality variables and other components that promote health and well-being.

Net-Zero plumbing design elements include:

  • Energy efficient hot water system utilizes a water-cooled heat pump connected to a geothermal system
  • Condensate drainage water recovered from air handler units supplies the irrigation system
  • Hot water recirculation system optimized to reduce energy consumption

Barry Farms Redevelopment

Engenium Group is providing Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineering services to support the new construction of the Barry Farm redevelopment mixed-use project located in Southeast Washington, DC. The basic scope of work includes design for three multi-family buildings as a part of the Phase 1 redevelopment: Parcel 1A, Parcel 2, and Parcel 1B. The project is being designed to achieve Passive House, LEED Silver, and Energy Star certifications.

Engenium Group provided MEP services to develop the existing “B Class” commercial office building into a “Trophy Class” building, including addition of three new levels and all new exterior facades, MEP systems, roof terrace, elevators, lobby, streetscape, amenities and reconfigured central core and restrooms. The renovated building totals 261,500 SF (a 65,000 SF expansion).

1901 L Street is the first WELL(v1) building in DC certified by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI).

Engenium Group provided plumbing consulting and fire protection design services to support the modernization of the MLK library located in Washington, DC. We also provided local support for the mechanical and electrical system design and construction. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.
